FAQs

Is hummus zero points on Weight Watchers? ›

Hummus is not a ZeroPoint food because it's made with ingredients like olive oil and tahini, which have SmartPoints values. When making a dip, spread, or mousse with ZeroPoint foods, you only have to track and count the ingredients that have a SmartPoints value.

Why is homemade hummus not creamy? ›

You might need more tahini, garlic, lemon and/or salt and very likely more chickpea water. Add a bit of each as you need, the recipe explains. "Blitz the hummus until very smooth, a few minutes at least. Don't worry about the hummus being too loose; it will thicken as it sits."

What can I add to hummus to make it taste better? ›

Ground cumin and salt: Both improve the flavor of our hummus, and the cumin adds a little extra richness and spice. In our video, I sprinkle Za'atar seasoning on top for serving, which I love!

How to thicken homemade hummus? ›

If , for some reason, you ended up using more liquid than you should have or if you still want a thicker consistency, you can add a bit more tahini. And if you chill the hummus for an hour or so before adding any garnish, that should help as well.

What happens if you only eat zero point foods on WeightWatchers? ›

You can still lose weight: ZeroPoint foods have been part of WeightWatchers for many years! We rigorously test our programs and have found that members can regularly incorporate all ZeroPoint foods into their everyday eating and still lose weight.

Is rotisserie chicken zero points on WeightWatchers? ›

If I remove the skin from rotisserie chicken breast, is it a ZeroPoint food? Yes, as long as you're eating just the breast meat.

What's the trick to creamy homemade hummus? ›

Tip for extra CREAMY hummus

Add enough liquid! Compared to other hummus recipes, I use little tahini (sesame paste), lemon juice and olive oil. I want the hummus to taste like chickpeas and not like sesame or slightly bitter due to adding too much olive oil or lemon juice. Ergo, I add enough water.

Why does hummus need tahini? ›

Does hummus need tahini? You bet! In fact, tahini is one of hummus' main ingredients, along with chickpeas and olive oil. That's why our favorite dip can be so rich and delicious—in hummus, tahini adds smoothness to the texture, as well as a wide variety of vitamins and minerals.

What can I use instead of tahini in hummus? ›

If you feel adventurous, try replacing the tahini with an equal amount of peanut butter, sunflower seed butter, Greek yogurt, chopped roasted peppers, pitted olives, roasted beets, steamed sweet potato, avocado, or thawed frozen peas, to name just a few possibilities.

Why do you put baking soda in hummus? ›

Garlic: Fresh garlic cloves are always superior to garlic powder, and it's especially true in homemade hummus! Baking soda: Adding baking soda to the chickpeas helps make the legume easier to digest, softer, and makes them easy to peel. Don't skip this ingredient!

What's the best olive oil for hummus? ›

I use 1/3 cup in my recipe, and I choose a brand with a smooth texture and a mild, nutty flavor that's not bitter. My favorites are Cedar's (available at most grocery stores), Seed & Mill (the best ever), and Soom. Extra-virgin olive oil.

What happens if you put too much tahini in hummus? ›

As I said earlier, tahini has a mildly bitter flavour, so if your hummus is bitter, you've most likely added too much tahini. Also make sure that the tahini you do have is hulled, as opposed to unhulled. Hulled tahini just means that the bitter husks on the outside of the sesame seed have been removed before blending.

Why do you put ice water in hummus? ›

This will help you achieve that creamy hummus texture with no lumps. Another pro-tip: Add ice cold water while you blend up the sauce. Using ice cold water lightens the color of tahini, creating a hummus that is light and fresh looking. We recommend adding the ice water before adding in the cooked chickpeas.

How long does homemade hummus last? ›

How long does homemade hummus last? It will stay fresh and creamy for up to 1 week in the fridge (but it's best within 4 days). You can prevent it from drying out by storing it in an airtight container with a light layer of extra virgin olive oil on top.

What condiments are 0 points on WeightWatchers? ›

Well, good news: You can enjoy plenty of flavorings on WW — referred to as flavor boosters — and you can add them for zero points. Fresh and dried herbs, salsa, vinegar, hot sauce, mustard, reduced-sodium soy sauce, capers, citrus juice or zest, pickled jalapeños and unsweetened pickles are all "free" flavor boosters.

Are chickpeas 0 points on WW? ›

The chickpeas themselves will remain a ZeroPoint food, but any other ingredients with Points® values that you've added, like oil, still need to be tracked.
